Notes from Ruapekapeka

The trenches were zigzagged so you couldn't fire straight through

Puriri trees were used as main posts of the palisades because they are dense and strong

The British shot uphill towards the Maori defences.  We estimated they had to shoot up at 20 degrees.
The cannon could move left, right, up and down.  It was on a solid base.

Palisades

Today we worked out that the palisades around Ruapekapeka Pa would need at least 5000 pieces of wood!
